Simulation Testing

Simulation was used in the evaluation of candidacy for diplomate of Endovascular Medicine in 2006.  The candidates were asked to complete three cases and were evaluated using the Mentice system.  The metrics (measured endpoints) were evaluated, however they were not sophisticated enough to separate test takers, even on a pass/fail basis.  Successful completion of the simulation test was given to those examinees.

Although the ABVM strongly favors its use, simulation will not be required for those taking the 2007 examination.  The simulation test will be offered on an elective basis only and delivered at several peripheral interventional courses throughout the 2007-2008 year.  Once the metrics are validated, the ABVM will require its successful completion to attain diplomate status.

Questions regarding this change in policy can be directed to the Chief Operating Officer of the ABVM.
